CBD for Beginners
Cannabis, an ancient plant that has been used for millennia, is still regarded as a highly valuable plant today. So, what exactly is this magical plant? And more importantly, what is CBD?
Cannabis is a family of plants grown all over the world that can be divided into two main strains: indica and sativa. While indica has longer leaves and grows better in warmer climates, sativa plants are shorter, more bush-like plants that grow better in warm climates.
You are probably familiar with the term, ‘marijuana.’ How does this differ from cannabis? There is a very simple answer. Marijuana is any cannabis plant that contains more than 0.3% Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the cannabinoid responsible for making you high. However, cannabis plants contain over 100 other non-psychoactive cannabinoids, such as CBD.
Hemp is a strain of cannabis that falls into the sativa family. It is not considered marijuana because it’s THC levels are 0.3% or less, meaning it is not psychoactive. Therefore, it allows us to enjoy the benefits of this plant without psychoactive side effects. This has made CBD increasingly popular around the world.
Since 2017, the legal status of CBD has changed around the world has changed and it is widely considered legal if the CBD extract comes from hemp and has 0.3% THC or less.
The correct amount of THC assures a legal status for CBD products, but it does not ensure high-quality. High-quality is determined from the hemp the CBD is extracted from and how and where it was grown, such as if the soil had chemicals in it used for the growing process. High-quality is also determined by the the addition of any other ingredients to the CBD product, such as flavouring.
Additionally, how CBD is extracted from hemp is very important. Low-quality CBD may be extracted via chemical solvents that can contaminate the extract or even create toxins. But high-quality CBD products are extracted using low temperature, Co2 extraction.
It is also imperative that CBD products are tested by third-party laboratories to ensure quality, consistency, how much CBD is contained in the product, and to determine what and if anything else is in the product. You can trust that a product that passes third-party testing is of high-quality.
At CanaBD, not only are all products checked and third-party lab tested, but the CBD in our products is 100% organic and extracted using low temperature extraction. This is why you can be sure you are buying the best quality products.
